Kohlhaas
Kohlhaas, a respectful and righteous horse trader lives a simple and quiet life with his family. Unfortunately, it takes a small scam for him to realize that things are not always what they seem and that he lives in a world where injustice, corruption, and self-interest dominate the system. Kohlhaas constantly runs into dead ends and after doing everything in his power to make things right, he wrongfully ends up losing everything from his property to his loved ones. This takes a toll on him, and what starts off as a dispute over horses drives him to rebellion, destruction, and murder.
This story is about a man’s transformation from being whole, to having everything stripped away from him and leaving just a skeleton behind. Thus, the setting and costumes for this production set in sixteenth century Dresden, reflect that descontruction throughout the play.
